Shipping Fenugreek Plants, Box, Moss, Packing Paper

So, as everyone knows I started up shop and had a few plants for sale. Great, first sale... wait.. how do I send a plant through the mail?

Luckily it is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, so let me walk you through the steps I took to make sure it handles it's trip from point A to point B.

But first, here are some mistakes I made:

  1. Customer asked for plant to be shipped later than order date. I should have brought the plant into my indoor grow room to keep it temperature controlled and an eye on with my grow room camera. Why? Well, Mr. Artichoke got waterlogged from all our rain here the last week and he is now wilted and yellow.

  2. Don't disturb the roots on your plants. If you know you are going to be selling online and shipping, make sure you have a small enough plant to fit in a plastic cup or so. The plant will die or be deeply disturbed if you transplant it.

  3. Don't leave your plant in the car when it is hot out for handing over to usps, I would advise some holes in your box so it can breathe!

    1. Check the weather! See where it is going and make an educated decision based on where it is going and how long it will be stuck in a box.

      So what do you need?

    2. Saran Wrap

    3. Sphagnum moss

    4. 4x4x4 or 6x6x6 boxes

    5. Plant Stickers - Fragile

    6. Packing medium

      1. newspaper

      2. packing paper

      3. packing peanuts

      4. bubble wrap - but don't suffocate plant

      5. shredded cardboard

Are we ready to pack n' ship?

Step 1: Carefully remove your plant from it's pot, gently shake off the dirt and place the root into a ball of sphagnum moss.

Step 2: spray with a little water, then wrap the root system up the stem a little with saran wrap (plastic wrap).

Step 3: Wrap paper or bubble wrap cylindrically around the whole plant to keep from damaging the foilage while shipping. Try not to let the paper or bubble wrap actually touch the foilage so it can breathe.

Step 4: Place in box and fill in any voids with shredded cardboard / peanuts / plant friendly padding.

Step 5: Close up your box and slap a "Live Plant" Sticker on it and get your label ready.

Step 6: Choose fastest shipping within reasonable cost, the plant will be ok in the dark for about a week. They will be OK!
