First off, Happy Holidays! With Christmas creeping up, we need to get our gift ideas planned out and executed! Here are some fast and fun shirt ideas to get you started.
The Project - Matching Christmas Shirts:
I was lucky enough to take on my first DTF / T-Shirt job from a local daycare. There was a mix of baby, toddler, youth and adult sizes. This brough up all kinds of challenges for me, but also lots of lessons learned.
Tools:
Photoshop or a free editor - if you plan to modify a design or start from scratch
T-shirt press or cricut press - you can totally use an iron but you need to know what temperature it is. ideally 330 F
T-shirt placement tools or a 12" ruler for guiding you when pressing the shirt
Scissors (for cutting DTFs)
Bath towel folded (for pressing)
Jiffy Account (unless you have a local DTF print shop)
Design:
Do you have photoshop or a program where you can create or edit SVG
If you don't have experience - Please see here (external link for editing SVG file)
Materials:
DTF Prints - I sourced from Jiffy
Cotton T-shirts - I sourced from Michaels and Faire
Time:
Time to create design - 30-1hour
Time to order design - 20 min
Time to press design - 5 min each
Key Take-aways:
Read directions from where you order DTF prints, some are different.
Press time - I used 15 seconds
Temperature - I used 330 with Cricut
Problems:
Make sure you have a clear mind-set when you start.... #1 MAKE SURE YOUR PRINT IS ON THE RIGHT WAY... NOT UPSIDE DOWN... see second image on the page to see what I did wrong.
Not applying enough pressure / heat long enough - don't be shy to come back again and press for another 15 seconds.
Wait to peel... wait wait wait.... 5-10 mins at least if there is any problem you can always apply heat again.
