How to Make A Bamboo Garden Trellis for Under $10 - Snap Peas and Cucumbers

Those beans, cucumbers, and other vine vegetables in your garden are going to need some support as the season goes on. A normal trellis made of metal can now cost an arm and a leg, so let's work around that and make a simple trellis from bamboo and twine. Both things you can find locally.

What do you need? Three things. One of them includes yourself. The other two, bamboo and twine.

To Purchase:

Twine hardy enough to withstand the summer weather and tension: Everbilt #30 x 190 ft. Natural Twisted Jute Twine 72786 - The Home Depot

How to: Garden Trellis

Start by securing your bamboo sticks into the ground and crossing them; keep approximately 2-3 inches up top to be able to tie with your twine. Do this every 6 to 12 inches as you please.

Next: Secure 1 bamboo stick across the top between the crosses you made (this is there you should have left the 2-3 inches to hold the bamboo

Almost done: Get out your twine and twist around to secure each joint on the crosses.

Last: Tie a string across each side about 1 foot apart for your beans to grab a hold onto. Your height may differ based on how deep you planted your bamboo stick. I would do a row every 6-12 inches. Peas and Cukes can grow from 4-6 feet tall.

If you already have plants, train them to start attaching to the strings!
